Another couple have started the jouney of marriage. Out best of wishes goes out to them. Mr. & Mrs. Ryan Hagen ...
A reminder that yes we have a spot for campers, tenters and those who want to spend the night after having a good time. Like everyting we do have rules, this camping area is where you can go and sleep off before hitting the road, this is not the place to continue on with the good time, you can go else where for that. If after 2 a.m. noise continues you will be visted by me, ( I may be cranky that time of the night). Again we want everyone to have a good, safe, time. I want to thank everyone for the great job of cleaning up the areas and leaving Joy Haven looking good the the next event. ken

We well had our first non-alcoholic wedding reception/dance. With a turnout of over 300 people I was glad to see people enjoying themselves. We had to use the overflow area for parking which worked out ok,. Another reminder, we are trying to keep the traffic flow one-way. Enter from the Highway (east) and exit out the north (bettween the bins and main building or the north side of the main parking area). We have alot of kids running around and we want to make sure everyone is safe.

The summer is going, I mean fast. I am busy with the yard and adding new items and places for pics. We received the 150 wedding chairs for the outdoor weddings which we have 3 to date. I want to thank everyone for show respect for the newly weds and for Joy Haven. Room 911 the bar is making an impact on people and still we are having a good time. The pop machines to date have made only about $10 donation to the Sam Spady Foundation but we have given more and we had one of the dad's give a check for $30 direct to the foundation which I thank you. Watch for more pics within the next two weeks.

The last two weeks have gone so fast. We had two great weddings and both were unique as is the Bride and Groom. Mulligan's Catering did the first wedding, very professional and Oh it was soooo GOOD. From Dickinson, Terry and his staff did a great job. Last nite we had Hawks Landing from Bowman. He brought out his trailor grill and cooked up some roast beef that melted in your mouth as fast as it went in. Amber and Jesse did a couple of things that really helped open our options. They had the caterer have the food line on the door end of the main building which worked good for the group of 200. Also they had the power point after the grand march which also worked out very well.
Toons Incorporated was the DJ for last nite's wedding and Norris did a great job of using his great voice along with the selection of music that involved the whole group. K Hook have done several of the weddings out here and again did a very good job. I noted a few things I see that could improve is when your invited to a wedding, stay around after the march. Get to know the guests of the bride and groom and enjoy this special day into the late hours. The netting we placed in front of the main overhead door works great and when the door is open and the music is going, you will hear the 2nd set of speakers in the yard. A reminder, if you are going to have a good time and do enjoy a few drinks, have a designated driver or make plans on staying overnite at Joy Haven. Money goes fast enough without involving the courts and as always, all lives are important. Ken

Our first Outdoor Wedding, Seating for 130, overcast skies, mid 70's. Check out the pics on Outdoor Weddings pics. I think I may even had a tear coming out of my eyes. The Bride's room was used. We may be changing the Brides room over to the Green Room (the bigger room) due to the space,
One of the things that seem to be working ok is for the Social Hour, we are running a cash bar with the drinks at $2 for most. This way we have no cost to the bride and groom and yet cover our cost for that hour.
JD's BBQ gave another option for food. Purchase just the main items you want (example they had the beef brisket and chicken and beans with BBQ sauce, which both were very, very good) and then the couple just has to buy the buns, plates, chips etc. Very cost effective.

5 p.m. Outdoor wedding at Joy Haven, a fishing theme and the music and positive energy that all went together like a fishing pole and hook. Check out the You Tube Weddings for this unique wedding. Cash bar with prices reduced at the bar for social hour followed by a home cooked meal that was "oh so good". Carol Jilek (701.290.4140) took pictures and more pictures and more pictures, all over the yard. K hook came on at 8 and the place came alive again. Remember one of the main purposes is to help with the cost, and this wedding will be remembered for years and very cost effective. I finally got to work in the tree area north of the buildings and now have another 6 spots for pics and yes more grass to cut and bag.
We want to thank Mr. & Mrs. Travis Jepson for the donation of fish net, pink ribbon, votive cups, flower candle rings,. These items can be used for upcoming weddings again helping with the cost.
A note to DJ's coming to Joy Haven, be sure to check in with me (ken) before unloading your equipment.

Our 3rd outdoor wedding. Beautiful day and a great couple. I always love it when I see new faces coming to Joy Haven, at first I can see them look at the place as a farm and what are we doing here and then I see at they see what this place has to offer and the change in the thought of Joy Haven. Obrian of Belfield provided the food, great job. Music was provide by the Bride's uncle from Minn. and man he was good, B52 speakers and state of the art equipment. Mandy Merkel played the Violin for the wedding and did a excellent job, you can check out the vendors list under entertainment if you would like to have her play for you. This wedding was decor for a Prince and Queen and the Bride and Groom fill the spots. I often hear why get married and what I saw was a guy who became a Man by committing to his now Wife his love for her.
Just a reminder that any church who would like to do a marriage retreat at Joy Haven should get a-hold of me (ken). We do not charge for this service. We believe Marriage is that important to the family unit.

We had our first very special wedding, held here. Numbers less than 20 but Love for each other too high to count. The food was provide by the Obrien girls from belfield, very very good. Remember it is not the number but the true friends that we all have, a special day for very special people.
I did a no no, well maybe a yes yes, I bought a play house for the front of the main building, it is for ages 3 and up so yes, I can play in it. We will have this area for young kids along with chaulk area. Remember life is about seeing what can be done and doing what we can do, marriage is the same, go past the rough to get to the smooth, I know you can do it.

Another outdoor wedding here at Joy Haven has come and gone. And, Joy Haven did what it was suppose to do. It broght people together to celebrate a special occasion of some very special people. Pam from MasterPiece did a great job of decoroating. The food was outdoor grilled by Troy Anderson using charcoal. Music was provided by Stinger Toons which brought people to the dance floor and the place came alive. The country western song which has the lyrics "God is Great, beer is good, and people are crazy" is all I can hear in my mind tonight.
September 21, 2009
Another first for Joy Haven,.. A couple got married here, well not really here but here. They got married at the abondoned farm north of the place. A house that sits on a hill top and below is two big trees where two people joined together the vows of marriage with 275 witnesses watching on. Checkout the pics on outdoor weddings. JD's BBQ provided the beef along with rice and beans and provided three servers for a very reasonable price and yes, it was great. K hook came and set up after supper and again brought the people to the dance floor and helped make some funds for the Bride and Groom. We must remember that Room 911 bar is here also for a purpose of helping people and helping Joy Haven bring in additional funds to continue to keep the cost of Joy Haven very low. So if you are thinking about setting up your own portable bar in the back yard, think again.
I see so many couples who put time, either into the wedding or the celebration afterwards. Alot of time and planning was placed in this event for the wedding. Remember, keep on kissing each other and stay connected (bride and groom).

April and Ryan married at Joy Haven. Perfect day with two very special people. Click on the right to see the meal you missed from Mulligan's, it was SOOOOOO good. Midnight express played the tunes and Geoge and company did a great job. We had a mis communications with the security so none was present. April and Ryan fiends showed all the respect to Joy Haven and to the Bride and Groom., they do have some great friends and family. PS, we had our first dance on the bar and I will not mention who they were. Because of this I was thinking, maybe we can utilize that into Room 911, but, inorder to do this you will have to donate $5 to the Sam Spady Foundation., just a thought. Great people, great time.

October 3, 2009
October, where did the summer go. Our outdoor Patio heaters worked great and gave another feel to joy haven. (warmth). This was our second non-alcohol reception and with Lady's J catering in a excellent meal and service along with Nine lives DJ, two special people started a life together with a fun celebration.
Every so often I meet a person who impacts my life, this persons name is Jacob and I know he has the energy inside to make a big difference in this world. I was listening to a song by Sara Evans called "Born to Fly" and the part of the song goes like this " How do you keep your feet on the ground when you know you were born to fly" Well Jacob is born to fly and I know along the way the road may get pretty rough on the landings, but, if we would all choose correctlly from this point on, life will get better and I know he was born to fly and make a positive difference in this world. Proud to meet you Jacob. (ken)

Remember that list of bookings for 2009, well guess what, the last wedding reception is now part of our past. Time, where does it go. We can look at life and see the good times, the bad times and the good times again and it goes on and on. JD's catered in a full meal which filled us with the excellance of the food and the great service of the staff, great job. Before we knew it another couple have started the first day of many great days ahead of them. Congrats.
