Why Joy Haven?

August 08, 2008, our daughter Holly Joy married Jason at the farm.  I asked Holly before this what to name the place
if it had a name, she suggested Joy Haven.  I got the web name www. joyhaven.com ( I have like 6 web names just in case)
tied up and we went forward with the wedding.

When we applied to register the business name Joy Haven, I remember my attorney questioning to what we intend to do.
In fact when we visited again to have Joy Haven registered as Joy Haven LLC I received the same feeling.

Well here we are, the weddings are being booked for 2009, plans are in place to grow with the dream and a little thing is
happening in the back yard that I hope will make Joy Haven "the Wedding place", not because of being very affordable and
cool but for what it means to all.  A place for all to go to, low income, high income, whoever you are, to be able to make
that commitment to someone you love.

Back in 2007 I wrote a letter to the editor on the importance of marriage.

Letter to the Editor:

Bismarck Tribune

Marriage is all about commitment

Aug 05, 2007 - 04:03:03 CDT
By KEN KUBISCHTA
Dickinson

After watching a morning TV show telling of the future trend of 70 percent to 80 percent of our young people asking,
"Why marriage?" I felt I should reply.

My wife and I have been married 31 years. Yes, we have had and I am sure we will have tough times, times when a person
questions whether what you did was worth it. It's just to let people know, they are worth it, because it makes the
relationship stronger; it makes you stronger. But more importantly, it shows commitment: commitment to your family,
the foundation of the family unit.

You know the phrase, "If you are going through hell, keep going." Well, this is what life is about. When times get tough
and a person says, forget about you or what do I need this for, and walks out, the person is telling us what we should
think of them. Every time you go through a tough time, it makes you a tougher person, a person who takes on life,
the challenges, the feelings and the hurts of life. Yeah, it is easy to blame someone, and yes, we do not want to get hurt.
it does not feel good. You're right, It hurts; it hurts bad. Go through hell, you will come out the other side a stronger
person.

Commitment to someone shows your support, your love, your feelings for that person. Things are going to change,
ups and downs will be part of it, but we will see a couple who is strong enough to take it on.

I see so many kids who are hurting, who will do whatever it takes to destroy themselves just to anger mom or dad. Why?
Because they are hurting, because the parents did not have the strength to take on this hurt. They mustn't pass it on
to the kids. They should take care of it themselves. Those vows are real, they do mean something; and if they follow them,
they will make a difference in somebody's life. Or people can go on sleeping together and pretending that they are grown up.

Marriage shows values, commitment and support for our future - our kids.

Joy Haven is here with a strong purpose.  We are meeting next month (Jan 7) with the Dunn County Commissioners on
receiving a Liquor License for Joy Haven.   The bar will be side by side with a Coffee bar.  Life is about choices.
I found with working with kids that if they do not have choices then they will/may fall into the wrong paths of life.

Thank you and enjoy,

Ken Kubischta

JAN. 7, 2009

MET WITH THE DUNN COUNTY COMMISION ON THE LUQUOR LICENSE

THEY LIKE THE IDEA OF THE BAR ALONG WITH THE COFFEE BAR AND GIVING CHOICES FOR THE GUESTS.

THEY ALSO INFORMED US THAT WE NEED TO PIN POINT THE AREA FOR THE BAR.  WHICH MEANS WE WILL HAVE TO FRAME OUT THE AREA WHERE THE BAR IS BEING MADE.  AT THAT POINT WE WILL HAVE A DISIGNIATED AREA FOR LIQUOR SALES.  MONICA (MRS. KEN)  SAID WE COULD FRAME OUT FROM THE EAST OF THE WINDOW AND BOX IN THE NEW BAR BEING BUILT.  WE COULD HAVE WINDOWS LIKE THEY HAVE AT PERKINS ALONG THAT WALL TO OPEN THE SPACE.

WILL BE MEETING WITH THE ATTORNEY JAN. 8 TO HAVE HIM CHECK WITH THE STATE IF THIS WOULD BE FINE.  IF OK WE WILL BE BACK ON THE COMMISION MEETING AND KEEP GOING FORWARD.

JANUARY 08, 2009

Met with an attorney on setting up the Joy Haven bar.  Looks like we will enclose the bar area.  We need to have that area clearly marked and noted.  We are planning on having windows on the east wall along with a glass door leading into the bar area.  We are scheduled to be at the Dunn County commission meeting February 4 to submit the application.  I plan on having the walls up at that time.

JANUARY 12, 2009

The walls are up for the Bar area,   the east wall will not have any windows, giving you more wall space to use.  We are planing on having cork board that can attach to the wall if needed, check out the what's new pics,.  A couple mentioned on having horse shoe pits in the yard, so we plan on have at least two areas for that.  An overhead projector is on order along with a screen to be pulled down for power point presentations for the wedding party.  Again if you have any feed back please let us know, what one is thinking about others are also.

JAN. 23, 2009

Another item in the plans to the east of the Gazebo is a gas/log pit area, with sitting area around the pit.  The door should be in next week for the bar area, again, solid oak door with plate glass down the center, the oak will be stained silver.  I am thinking of having the theme of the bar based on The Sam Spady Foundation,  www.samspadyfoundation.org  I already have one of her pictures at the store and plan on getting another 4 pics.  In one of the courners I will have what all that means.  Check out the site.  This should never happen.  This sunday we, monica and I, will be at the KFYR bridal show in bismarck, nd.  Next to the K-hook booth.  Look for our banner.

JAN. 27, 2009

The theme is set for the bar,  I ordered Sam's artwork which will be displayed in the bar area.  The name of the bar has not been set so if you think of something let me know.

Below is the reply from Patty Spady, Sam's mom.

Ken,
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts with your businesses.  Good luck with you new venture.  I checked out the website and it looks wonderful.  We don't condone underage drinking but have always known it is not realistic to know that it doesn't happen.  Even people who are of legal drinking age can get into trouble when consuming alcohol.  It has been and continues to be our goal to educate people on the dangers and inform them of the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning.  We appreciate your sensible and thoughtful ideas you plan to incorporate into your bar area.  The more people we can reach the better chance we have of saving lives.

Thank you for remembering us and good luck.

THE DOOR IS IN

Jan. 28, 2009

Installed the door into the Bar area, (not yet named).  A ramp has been installed on the east side of the stage and the steps moved over to the west side.  Both will be railed and painted.  I am about to try moving the red shed to make room for more parking and also to open the area so we can have more visiablilty.

Ordered the overhead projector and 100" screen and mounting hardware,.  there goes another thousand.  But It is Sooo Good.

Feb. 4, 2009

We have approval from the Dunn county Commisioners for the liquor license for Joy Haven, now it goes onto the state for final approval.  The projector is in place, pictures to follow.  I want to thank Global Presenter From CA, GlobalPresenter.com for helping with the item and advice, thank you Ed Goldman.

Feb. 8, 2009

The railing is up around the stage, the front is open.  Check out pic on What's New tab.  We have steps on the west side and a 16' ramp on the east side, the bands will love this.  Still trying to move the red storage building to the west of joyhaven, (still trying).  This will open up the parking to the west once it is gone.  Gravel of some sort will be applied to this area.   Joe's Electric hooked  up another heater in the red building along with outlets in the ceiling for better lighting.

Feb. 13, 2009

We had our first Valentine gathering at Joy Haven,.

Feb. 17, 2009

I got the guest book to work, one of my blockers was in place not allowing me to see the comments.  You should receive an e-mail when you post your comment.  All comments must first be approved before posted.  I encourage all comments, feedback is important to make Joy Haven that special place.  thanks, ken

Feb. 20 2009

Sent in the Application for the State Liquor License.  Lined up J& L Concrete to pour cement on the East side of the red building, 10 feet wide by 70 long,.  this will be cleaner and allow grilling on the side of the building.  We are looking at awnings for the east side of the red building along with a awning for the south side of the main building.  Contact a plumber for adding to the men's bathroom.  Again if you have any wants/need please let us know.

Feb. 25, 2009

Room 911 retail alcoholic beverage license is going forward.  (The State of North Dakota ok'd the License but will not be issued till April, 2009)   Remember that this room is set up to provide alcohol drinks and non-alcohol drinks at your gathering.  No signes will be put up promoting brands of alcohol beverages.

Monica will be sending out a survey of needs and wants at your wedding and this room will adapt to your wishes.  We have about 3 weddings where they wish to not have Alcohol present and that is what will happen.

This room 911 is restricted to only those 21 and over.

As noted before the tip jar will go to the bride and groom.

Room 911 is there to help, enjoy and educate as noted on the site tab Room 911

Dunn County Sheriff needs to be contacted on all gatherings and hired to watch Joy Haven which is your responsibilty to set up.  If you have somone else you wish to have to still need to contact the Dunn County Sheriff dept. and run it pass them first.

Thank you,

Ken

February 27, 2009

Monica is looking at a formal seating arrangment for the sun room of the house (the room that projects out to the west)this will be ordered with a time frame of 2 months.  We are looking at a Sofa and two chairs, also planning how we will make one of the bedrooms as a room for the bride to get dressed for the wedding if held at Joy Haven in the Gazebo or back up site.  The PA will be provided along with chairs and a white runway for the Bride to meet up with the Groom.  The white runway will be portable so if needed could be used inside Joy Haven main building for indoor weddings.

MARCH 15, 2009

Well we started rearranging the house to turn one of the bedrooms into the Bride's Room.  This is where the Bride to be can get ready before the wedding.  This is of course if the wedding is held here at Joy Haven.  The main room of the house on the west side with all the patio doors will become the Green Room,  Where the bride's maid along with the bride can take a little break before the wedding.  We will be adding formal furniture so you can all feel as important as you are.

I know the snow is slowly going and before you know it the yard work will be taking place.  I am hoping to have the sale of my store MusicMart completed by May 1, and those funds will be used for the projects that need to be done my May 31,.  which include, the men's bathroom, 10' x 70' of concrete on the east side of the red building and some ground covering west of  Joy Haven for parking.  The red shed will be moved or gone, opening up the space for parking and view.

MARCH 16, 2009

Sometimes you wonder if what you are doing is the right thing, and then you have remember what is the main, main focus.  Today day we took down the red granary,  I know it still had a few more years in it but we looked at what it would cost and the life left in the wood and what could be saved and we said, down it goes.  So if you check the pics on what's new you will see a before and after shot.  The reason for this is to open up the parking spot to the west.  It will be lit and ground surface will be in place.   This will be very visable when you drive into the yard and signed.  And lit up so you can have a good time without worry.

The barn's leanto will be converted for storage that we lost.  Parking for the Wedding party and Handicap will be on the West side of the  Main building for Joy Haven.

March 24, 2009

Snow melted and now it is back,  Looking at the bright side, the yard is going to be green.  We received theliquor license from the state.  Wrist bands will be used for Room 911, on it will say "Welcome to Room 911, Please Drink Responsibly".  Different colors will be used at different events.  These were ordered from www.wristbandexpress.com

April 16, 2009

For 2009 this is what is FREE,  when you book a date you get the day before along with the wedding day.  AND, if you help with the clean up you get the day after the wedding.  So you have a date booked and confirmed.  Wedding at the Gazebo , FREE,  Sound system at the Gazebo, FREE,  Table Linen for the tables,  FREE.  Use of the yard to unwind after and before the wedding, FREE.  Parking for RV and tenting, FREE.  And more.  The biggest demand from your guest is respect for the Wedding couple and Joy Haven.  As times goes on we plan on making the package even more affordable.

JL concrete will be pouring cement ( a 10' x 70') east of the Red building for the cater's to use.  Also a slab of concrete 14' x 40' to the south of the red building.  This will be for guest to unload and load.  We are also planning on pouring  1/3 of the pole barn to be used for storing my bobcat and such.  (remember down the road we want to turn the pole barn into a place for bands to play and put on music festivals)

After the load limit restrictions lift off of Hwy 22,  we will be hauling in about 350 tons of gravel for the parking lot west of the place.  I will also be putting in steel post ( painted white) along with white plastic chain to run the length of the driveway ( on both sides) coming into the yard to help control the flow.  When we have the cash flow this will be replaced with a two rail white fence line.

If you have any questions please contact us.  I have sold the store in Dickinson and will be spending most of my time here at the place.  So if you want to check out something, measure something or even show it off, stop in.  This is a business just like any other and is open to the public.  My cell is 701.290.0112  Thanks,  ken.

April 20, 2009

Started fencing for the area for RV parking and tenting.  We increased the area south of the gazebo by 150' deeper and 300' wide.  You will enter this area by the entrance of the farm or go pass the gazebo and go south.    Remember for now this is primitive parking which means it has no water/sewer/or power.  This can be used by the wedding party and guests.  We encourage guests to have a good time, spend the nite and don't drink and drive along with respect for the wedding party and Joy Haven.

April 26, 2009

Monica and I went to Menards, not a good thing for the cc.  Picked up 20 sheets of lattice along with an Arbor and post for the 500' of plastic chain which will help with the flow of traffic.    And we can't forget the firepit.   Waiting for the load restrictions to come off so we can pour cement and haul gravel for parking lot.

Today, April 30, 2009 I have met with the Dunn County Sheriff, and we are putting in place a new format for Joy Haven.  Joy Haven will be having the Dunn County Sheriff dept do the security for Joy Haven.  The cost of $125 will be billed to the hosting party.  This will help on a couple of areas; (1) I know that we have someone in place and (2) We will not have a conflict of interest.

Room 911, Joy Haven's Bar, will carry the basic of drinks.  We do not plan as of now to have special mix drinks on hand.  If your party wants certain beer's or whiskey please let us know.  Champaine can be order through Joy Haven along with Keg beer for social hour (1 hour).

Camping for RV's, and tenting area.  This area is to provide a place for those with campers and for those who wish to camp after the wedding can do so.  This will not be used for partying after the wedding.  You will have to go elsewhere for that.

Remember that Joy Haven is made up of two words, Joy (to enjoy your stay) and Haven ( to have a safe time).

All future events will be charged the base rate of $500 for two days plus $125 for security = $625 (two days)(three days if you help with the clean up)
Current events will be billed for the security ($125)

Also note that the tip jar at the Room 911 bar will be going back to the Wedding party.

June 17, 2009

Another wedding has come and gone and we are setting up for this Friday's wedding.  Last weekend was picture perfect and everybody enjoyed what mother nature had to offer.  Just a reminder to those having and those asked to share those special days,  We would like to have one way traffic flow through Joy Haven, unload your guest on the unloading pad and then park behind the grain bins and when you leave go out the north side.  If you must pickup a guest then you may counter flow the traffic if you must.  Joy Haven is a place for you and your family can relax outdoors and enjoy those North Dakota sunsets and evening stars.
